Laying Floating Floors

Floating flooring is a popular alternative to traditional solid timber as it is cheaper, quicker to install, involves less mess or fuss and can be walked and lived on immediately. This innovative installation solution is sturdy, reliable and easy to maintain. Here at A1 Flooring The Timber Flooring Centre, we offer a great range of beautiful engineered timbers, solid bamboo and laminate flooring that all utilise this technology.

How does a Floating Floor work?

The term 'floating floors' applies to floorboards or panels that click or glue together to form a platform that simply sits over a sub floor under its own weight without the use of adhesive or nails. Most floating floors come pre-finished in highly durable, UV cured urethanes for extended durability and long life.
A main advantage of floating floors is they can be directly laid over various surfaces, including vinyl, concrete, timber, and tiles. They can also be laid over joining subfloors, i.e. concrete meeting a timber sub-floor as in the case of an extension. This flexibility provides the perfect solution for new homes, renovations and refurbishments.
A quality underlay is used beneath the floating floor which helps absorb sound and softens the feel to walk on. Two underlay options are available; standard 2mm closed-cell foam underlay, and Quietstep 2mm foam underlay for extra sound absorption.
We carry "Readyflor" by Premium Floors, arguably the best quality floating floor on the market today. Engineered timber and solid bamboo floating floors can be re-sanded and polished in the same way as traditional timber flooring.
